College for Criminal Law Science

College for Criminal Law Science (CCLS) of Beijing Normal University (BNU) is established to promote the further development of the criminal law science in China On august 18, 2005, aiming at building a modern national leading academic institution specialized in criminal law science and a key base offering consultation services for criminal legislation and criminal justice, parallel to the famous international academic organs of criminal law science. In order to reach this destination, CCLS is engaged in (1) the institutional innovation by establishing the first and also, at present, the only modern, independent, comprehensive academic research body specialized in criminal law science and the base for training higher-level creative professionals in China,(2) the breakthrough of the institutional scale through setting up seven sub-institutes covering all branches of criminal law science and several special institutes enabling the integration of all branches, and organizing a high-quality academic team of a galaxy of talents with reasonable structure and innovative spirit, (3) the transform of the mind in carrying out the mission of seeking for development in a harmonious, scientific, innovative, strategic and striving way.
Researchers
The researchers of CCLS consist of full-time researchers ,Part-time Professors and Researchers, Specialist Consultation Committee for Knotty Criminal Issues Studie and Specially Invited Consultant Professors. Now there are 40 full-time researchers, most of them coming from famous universities or relevant institutions home and abroad. They are either well-known experts or young doctors, who form a better academic team with quite appropriate structure in their knowledge, ages and academic titles. Academic Achievements, Research Projects and Academic Lectures
Ever since the establishment of CCLS, more than 500 academic papers, 117 books,30 textbooks and 16 academic periodicals have been published or are ready for publication .Shortly after the foundation of CCLS , Criminal Jurisprudence Library of BNU, International Criminal Jurisprudence Library of BNU and Criminal Jurisprudence Doctoral Thesis Library of BNU were established, respectively with 31 , 13 and 6 books published . The researchers of CCLS have undertook 69 research projects home and abroad. CCLS has sponsored 20 Serial Forums on Reform of the Death Penalty, 17 BNU Forums on Special Topics of the Criminal Law and 34 BNU Lectures on Criminal Law by Famous Specialists.
Academic Conferences
Ever since the establishment of CCLS, CCLS has sponsored or co-sponsored with other academic organizations home and abroad 38 domestic and international academic conferences, at which profound and systematic discussions have been made about some practical issues in criminal justice and criminal law theories, including criminal law reform in the context of globalization, reform of criminal justice, death penalty reform, execution of property penalty, International Criminal Court, anti-terrorism legislation and terrorism crime, protection of IPR by criminal law, corruption crime and so on, These conferences and discussions have forcefully promoted the development of theories of Chinese criminal law and rule of law in criminal matters.
Cooperation & Exchange
Ever since the establishment of CCLS, CCLS has received visiting scholars over 300 person-times from Japan, South Korea, America, Germany, Canada, France, UK, Spain, Italy, Australia, Hong Kong and Macao, and sent about 120 person-times abroad for visiting, giving lectures, or attending academic conferences. Our College has signed academic cooperation & exchange agreements and established extensive academic cooperation & exchange friendship with more than 30 famous law schools, academic institutions, and judicial organs from home and abroad, including Max- Planck Institute of Foreign and International Criminal Law (Germany), Institute of Legal Philosophy and Legal Informatics at Munich University (Germany), Institute of Criminal Law and Criminology at Vienna University (Austria), Department of Law History and Theory of The Second University of Rome (Italy), Association des Juristes et des Economistes Chinois en France (AJECF)( France), Basque Institute for Criminology (Spain), International Centre for Criminal Law Reform and Criminal Justice Policy (ICCLR)(Canada), Korean Institute of Criminology (South Korea), the Law School of Dong-A University(South Korea), the Law School of Youngsan University(South Korea), Local Government Counsel Association of Hong Kong, Law School of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Justice and Prosecution Association of Macao, Law School of Macao University of Science and Technology, Research Center for Criminal Law of Wuhan University, the People’s Procuratorate of Beijing, and so on. CCLS has also kept stable and constant contacts and corporations with many government legal departments, famous research institutions for criminal law home and abroad and over 100 famous scholars thereof such as International Association of Penal Law (AIDP), Université Paris 1 Panthéon – Sorbonne (France), the Venice Bar Association (Italy), the Law School of Doshisha University(Japan), the Culture Committee of UK, Cultural and Education Section of British Embassy to China, University of Cambridge (UK), Korean Association of Comparative Criminal Law, the Faculty of Law at University of Hong Kong, the Law School of City University of Hong Kong, Department of Justice of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department (CED), the Procuratorate of Macao Special Administrative Region, the Faculty of Law of University of Macau, Asian Legal Resource Center(Hong Kong), Legislative Affairs Commission of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, the Supreme People’s Court, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Justice, Legislative Affairs Office of the State Council and many law colleges and schools in China.
