School of Political Science and International Studies
School of Political Science and International Studies (SPSIS), successor of Political Education Department (1953), Research Institute of Marxism-Leninism and Mao Tse-tung Thought (1978) and Research Institute of Law and Politics (1994), was founded in October 2003, and now is led by president Doc. Prof. Yang Shiwen.
The School has two teaching departments, including international affairs department and political science department, three research institutes, including institute for research on history and building of the CPC, institute for research on government management and institute for research on international issues, one division for teaching of ideological and political theory (composed of four teaching and research offices for conspectus of Chinese modern history, basic principle of Marxism, ideological and moral cultivation and fundamentals of law, and Mao Tse-tung Thought, Deng Xiaoping’s Theory and the important thought of Three Represents), and one postdoctoral R&D workstations for political science. Now the school has 47 faculties, including 17 professors, 15 associate professors, 11 lecturers and 4 administrative officers, as well as more than 10 guest professors and adjunct professors. Among its teachers, 32 are doctors, 12 are postgraduates, and 1 is doctoral student.
SPSIS emphasizes on cultivating postgraduate and has six specialties having right to confer doctor degree, including Chinese history and building of the CPC, administration management, basic principle of Marxism, research on Chinese Marxism, the history of Marxism and ideological and political education, eight specialties having right to confer master degree, including theory of political science, international relations, Chinese history and building of the CPC, administrative management, basic principle of Marxism, research on Chinese Marxism, the history of Marxism and ideological and political education. In addition, the school also accepts postdoctoral researchers and senior visiting scholar of political science and undergraduate of international affairs. Now, there are more than 300 undergraduates, graduates, doctors, senior visiting scholars and postdoctoral researchers studying in SPSIS.
Maintaining its excellent tradition of “being patriotic and progressive, honest and modest to pursue truth and innovation and to be a paragon of virtue and learning” and insisting on its school motto -- “Learn to be an Excellent Teacher; Act as an Exemplary Person”, SPSIS has established its own educational concept of "cultivating by learning and contributing by teaching" and dedicates to build itself into a coherent, advanced and open educational and research school.
