Advanced Training Program on the Teacher Education Program Design in the Universities(Colleges)
Background
With an emerging tendency of universitization and the increasing institutional
transition of teacher education in China, the universities (and comprehensive
colleges) begin to play more and more roles in educating teachers. How to
set up teacher education programs in universities is an urgent issue to solve
for the leaders of universities and officials in charge of the teacher education.
In the developed countries especially in North America in the 20th century,
there were institutional transformations through different approaches. The
approaches included the evolution of teacher colleges to state universities?
schools of education, the transferring of universities? departments of education
to schools of education, and the establishment of schools of education or
graduate schools of education at universities. Teacher education programs
and models were formed gradually during the institutional transformation.
Based on the experience of developed countries, Center for Teacher Education
Research of Beijing Normal University, Key Research Institute of Humanities
and Social Sciences in Universities, develops an advanced training program
on how to design teacher education programs as leaders in the universities
and colleges. Goals of the training program
The training program focuses on helping the universities? leaders: improve
their abilities to design teacher education programs which are adapted to
their specific context; understand the new ideas of teacher education; learn
the knowledge of designing teacher education program; change and form the
new conceptions of teacher education, and apply the new conceptions in the
program design.
The issues of teacher education program involve the admission and selection
of prospective teachers, the models and the curriculum of teacher education,
the partnership relations between universities and schools (professional development
schools), the relations between the academic credential and teacher certification,
the accreditation and evaluation of teacher education programs and institutions,
the integration of resource of teacher education within the universities.
This training program is planning to help the universities? leaders with better
understanding of the above issues.
